Collection Report 2022 – Karlowsky Fashion GmbH
Magdeburg, 2022 – Tradition, innovation and quality are values that have characterised Karlowsky Fashion GmbH for 130 years now. However, the traditional manufacturer of workwear from Magdeburg is not at all thinking of “resting” on these values. Just in time for the company’s anniversary, Karlowsky® has declared sustainability and corporate responsibility to be fundamental corporate guidelines. In order to live up to these principles, the first milestones were already set last year. With the product and company certifications Green Button, Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Global Recycled Standard (GRS), Karlowsky® has succeeded in achieving certification with strict and well-known standards in the textile sector. »We are of course proud of what we have achieved, but we cannot and will not sit back yet,« explains Thomas Karlowsky, managing director of the family business since 1990. »Many more challenges lie ahead of us in the coming years – whether as a company or as a society as a whole.«
The certifications with the Green Button and the two international product seals GOTS and GRS are the foundation for future product development and manufacturing at Karlowsky®. The Green Button is a state approved seal for sustainably produced textiles. It gives consumers orientation when shopping and sets binding requirements to protect people and the environment in the production process of textiles. A total of 46 demanding social and environmental criteria must be met – ranging from ‘waste water limits’ to ‘ban on forced labour’. What is special about the Green Button is that in addition to the product, the company as a whole is always audited. This makes the Green Button the first state approved seal that systematically checks whether companies fulfil their human rights and ecological due diligence obligations in their supply chain. The state sets the criteria and conditions – this creates clarity and trust. Independent inspection bodies monitor compliance with the criteria. As one of just under 80 companies in Europe, Karlowsky® has held the Green Button since last year. The company’s goal is to become one of the most sustainable producers of workwear in the gastronomy, hospitality, medical, care, wellness and cosmetics sectors in the coming years. The new collection for 2022 demonstrates this determination, with which Karlowsky® has always caused a stir in the industry.
Strengthening all product areas with sustainable all-rounders
Karlowsky® increasingly sees itself as a full supplier for its industries. »Everything from a single source« is the motto here. So customers can already get (almost) everything their hearts desire in terms of high-quality workwear from head to toe. With the sustainable all-rounders of the new collection, Karlowsky® is positioning itself even more broadly in the coming year and is thus coming a great deal closer to its goal. Awarded the Green Button, the new workwear polo shirts Modern-Flair for men and women (PF 6 & PM 6) and workwear T-shirts Casual-Flair for men and women (TF 5 & TM 9) with their material mix of recycled polyester (GRS certified) and cotton offer exceptional durability and easy care. The high washability of up to 95 °C (white) or 60 °C (coloured) also enables thorough cleaning. Both products are thus optimally equipped for professional use in hygienically sensitive working environments. The stretch content of the material also ensures freedom of movement at the workplace. With a total of 16 colours, the T-shirts and polos complement both Karlowsky product ranges: From trendy fuchsia and pacific blue to chic aubergine and moss green, so both medical practices and restaurants will find complementary colours to their existing sustainable team outfits from Karlowsky®.
Further all-rounders for men and women in the new range are the workwear sweat jackets Soft-Face (JF 24 & JM 39) and the workwear fleece jackets Warm-Up (JF 22 & JM 37). Also certified with the Green Button, these two jackets with a total of 10 colours also optimally represent both product ranges and allow outfits from the Karlowsky® collection to be completed. Thanks to the soft sweat fabric (made of GOTS-certified organic cotton and recycled polyester) or warming fleece fabric (made of GRS-certified recycled polyester) and the slightly roughened insides, both jackets are perfectly suited for use in working environments with frequently changing temperatures (e.g. in restaurants with outdoor terraces or in mobile care). Of course, these products also shine with their high durability and ease of care as well as their shape and wash resistance. The sweat jackets can be washed at up to 95 °C (white) or 60 °C (coloured). The fleece jackets can be washed at up to 60 °C. Shoulder reinforcements also ensure the durability of the jackets, as they reduce wear and tear in this area.
Elegant & modern innovations for restaurateurs
In the new apron models New-Nature (bib aprons LS 40 & waist apron VS 13) ecological thoughtfulness, naturality and urban elegance merge into a modern melange. These products are naturally certified with the Green Button. In addition, the polyester content in the material mix consists of GRS-certified recycled plastic. The natural look is emphasised by contrasting cords and the natural colours pebble grey, cinnamon, aubergine, moss green and steel blue. Despite these natural elements, both aprons captivate with urban charm and elegance. With their minimalist style, the aprons are ideal for use in upscale sustainable gastronomy and are the perfect complement to Karlowsky’s Green-Generation® aprons (LS 37 & VS 12) as well as the Green-Generation® chef jackets (JM 35 & JM 36) from last year.
With the luxurious DIAMOND CUT® Elegance men’s chef’s jacket (DCJM 7), Karlowsky® creates the perfect symbiosis of elegance and modernity, allowing work to be done at the absolute top level with this high-end workwear. With a super-lightweight piqué cotton blend, a back made of jersey piqué that ensures pleasant ventilation and functional transpiration, and also a sporty, slim silhouette, this top-class chef’s jacket is perfectly at home in award-winning restaurants around the globe.
The upscale PASSION segment also features another stylish article in very light fabric, the short-sleeved Modern-Touch women’s chef’s jacket (JF 25). The slim silhouette ensures an all-round comfortable feel. The concealed button panel is made with high-quality press studs that allow quick opening and closing. This chef’s jacket complements the Modern-Look short-sleeved model (JM 29) for men as well as the Naomi (JF 17) and Noah (JM 25) long-sleeved versions.
Add versatility to outfits with the universal accessories from Karlowsky®.
With the trendy 5 panel caps in trucker or baseball style (KM 31 & KM 32), Karlowsky® for the first time also focuses on the use of sustainable materials in the area of accessories. Thanks to the lightweight polyester, which was made from recycled plastic, the caps are also an ideal companion for leisure time in addition to work and, thanks to their full-length front panel, offer a generous surface for any kind of textile finishing. The 6 panel Performance Cap (KM 33) is yet another innovative piece of headwear. In addition to the unique look, which is created by the panels running from the back to the front, the cap convinces with its unmatched wearing comfort. Two breathable panels on the sides of the head made of jersey pique ensure ventilation and optimal air circulation. In addition, this cap is washable at up to 40 °C and is therefore also ideally suited for workplaces with high care requirements, e.g. in kitchens, bakeries, etc. All three caps are optimally suitable for all head sizes thanks to the practical click & snap fastener.
The innovative scissors holster (KZB 43), which is made of high-quality leather is another practical and modern accessory. The stylish organiser with its 5 compartments offers plenty of space for scissors, combs, brushes, knives and other equipment and is therefore the ideal companion for all hairdressers and barbershops. The holster shines with its easy attachment to a belt or apron by means of a belt loop that can be opened with press studs, which also makes cleaning much easier. Highly versatile are the new practical waiter’s wallet with press stud (KZB 40), the multifunctional cashier’s holster with belt loop (KZB 41) and the extra-large capacity cashier’s holster with integrated belt loop (KZB 42). They are the perfect organisers in hectic working days in restaurants, cafés, bars or even in the flight attendance and taxi service.
Lightweight, athletic, breathable – the new Next-Step work shoe (BS 53) has all that and more. The modern unisex shoe for lacing up in a half-shoe design is certified according to EN ISO 20347:2012 (O1-A-E-FO-SRC) and thus provides safe protection in kitchens, in service, in medical and nursing professions, cleaning and in the wellness sector. The upper material is made of durable textile fabric and therefore ensures high breathability even in demanding work environments. Thanks to the soft, removable insole, which adapts anatomically to the foot, it is also no problem to be on your feet all day. On top of that, the versatile shoe is washable at up to 30 °C.
Also new in the assortment is the single-coloured dish and cleaning cloth (GT 18) made of robust canvas fabric. Thanks to the highly absorbent natural fibre (100 % cotton), the versatile cloth is ideally suited for hygienic cleaning and drying of surfaces and utensils. The pre-shrinkage treatment of the fabric ensures optimal shape retention even after many washes (washable up to 60 °C) and thus makes it predestined for textile finishes such as embroidery and printing.
The new collection is rounded off with colour extensions for the popular water-repellent BASIC bib aprons (BLS 7) with the colours anthracite, blue, red, navy and forest green, as well as for the Green-Generation® aprons (LS 37 & VS 12) with the new colour black.
